Apply for a Passport
The Bergen County Clerk’s Office is a Passport Acceptance Facility. Our Passport Division reviews and accepts passport applications on behalf of the U.S. Department of State. Our office has been repeatedly recognized for exemplary performance and compliance with the standards set forth by U.S. Department of State. We pride ourselves on offering applicants the convenience of in-office passport photos and walk-in service with no appointments needed. Simply stop by our office with your required documents and payments and we will be happy to assist you with the application process. Notice / highlighted message
Important: All applicants applying for a passport, including children, must be present. Our office does not process renewal applications as eligible citizens can now renew their passports online or by mail. For questions, please call (201) 336-7011.
How to apply
- Complete the passport application
- Provide proof of American citizenship
- Provide passport photographs (Passport photos can be taken at the County Clerk’s Office for $10)
- Pay the passport and processing fees

Passport Fees
Passport fees are controlled by the Federal Government. See the most up-to-date pricing on the U.S. Department of State website.
The application fee and the processing fee are paid separately. The federal application fee must be paid via check or money order, made payable to the US Department of State. For the County processing fee we accept all major credit cards, debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, checks, or money orders. Starting January 2, 2026, the Bergen County Clerk's Counter will not accept cash payments.
